     The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English proficiency test administered by ETS. It tests a candidate’s ability to read, write, speak and listen English. It is now offered as an internet based test in most venues. In order to take the test, one has to make an appointment online.

FORMAT:

The internet based test has four parts,

1)     Reading:

a)      3-5 passages

b)      60-100 mins

2)      Listening:

a)      4-5 lectures

b)      1-1.5 hours

3)      Speaking:

a)      Express opinion, listen/read and speak

b)      20 mins

4)      Writing:

a)      Express opinion, listen/read and write

b)      50 mins.

 

PREPARATION:

  TOEFL is generally considered one of the easier tests to prepare for, if you have a good background in English. Sample questions, introduction to iBT are available online at www.ets.org.

SCORES:

Total 120 points (each section scaled from 0 – 30).

Upto four reports will be sent by ETS for free.
