   The cost of completing an undergraduate degree in the USA is very steep. On an average it can cost around INR.13-16 lakhs( INR.1.3-1.6 million) for tuition and living expenses per year. In the absence of funding from your university, you may want to apply for a loan, depending on you financial situation. This page has information on student loans in India and USA.

 

Loans in India:

  • Must be an Indian citizen

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university.

  • Maximum amount varies from INR.15-20 lakhs in most banks for studying overseas.

  • Approval depends heavily on the income and financial status of your parent/co-signor.

  • You would need to submit proof of admission, XII marks, income statement of borrower, income tax assessment order, details of expenses etc.

  • Repayment starts 1 year after the completion of your course or 6 months after you get a job, whichever is earlier in most banks.

  • Terms differ from bank to bank.

 

Loans in USA:

  • Must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited university.

  • In order to apply for loans in the USA, you need a co-signor who is an American Citizen.

  • Rates depend on the credit worthiness of your co-signor.

  • Maximum amount that can be borrowed differs from provider to provider.

  • Available through most banks.

  • Options for repayment usually include deferring payment till graduation.

Hindustan link: This link has detailed information on loan schemes from various banks. it lists the eligibility criteria, paper work required, and interest rates for several Indian banks. However, the site looks a bit outdated. I would advise you use it to get a general idea of different banks and then do further research.
