Applications and Deadlines:
Now that you have started thinking seriously about
applying to an American University, you might be wondering what Early
decision, regular decision, rolling admissions, early action etc. mean and which
one you should choose. And is there a common application?
Regular decision:
This is a normal application you send to the university before their
deadline and they reply before their normal deadline.
Early decision:
- Not all universities offer an early decision option.
- This deadline comes before the normal deadline.
- You can only apply for one college under early decision.
- You agree to attend that college if you get accepted.
So, is Early decision for you?
Apply early only
- If you are 200% sure you want to attend that particular college.
- If you are sure you can meet the college's financial requirements
Is Early Action different?
This is a variation of Early decision but you do not have to commit to
that college and in most cases you can apply to other colleges under a
similar program.
Common Application:
You might also be wondering if there is a common application that can
save you some valuable time.
Yes! There is a common application, but it is not used by all major
universities.
This is a service provided by common application association which can
save you some time.
The Common Application is an application that you complete at
www.commonapp.org .
You still have to complete supplemental forms required individual
universities and submit them separately. So, for example if you are
applying to 3 universities in the common application group, you fill out
one application and 3 supplementary forms (if necessary) and submit them
3 times separately to each university
